David J. Savory is a Geographic Information (GIS) Consultant and the President of Savvy Maps, LLC.  Mr. Savory provides expertise in engineering, natural resource, socio-economic, and transportation applications of Geographic Information Systems and allied geo-spatial technologies.  He has more than 15 years experience working on a variety of domestic and international GIS projects. His skills encompass all aspects of geo-spatial projects including GIS project design, spatial database design and implementation, data acquisition, data conversion, GIS application development, Internet mapping applications, geo-spatial analysis, satellite image processing, spatial modeling and GIS needs assessment.

About Savvy MapsHe has worked with a variety of GIS tools, but primarily utilizes the ArcGIS suite of products.  His experience with ArcGIS is extensive and includes geodatabase design, development of ArcIMS websites, and spatial analysis and modeling.  The ArcObjects development platform, web development languages (ASP, JavaScript), Microsoft’s .Net platform, and database servers (MS-SQL, Oracle) are also part of his repertoire

His cartographic background includes digital mapping of natural resource, agricultural, environmental, and socio-economic data using analog maps, aerial photographs, and satellite images.  Academically, his background spans the disciplines of agriculture, biology, chemistry, geography, geology, and soil science.

His experience in the international development arena includes 2 years in Bangladesh working on environmental and water resource GIS applications (USAID) and 3 years in Ghana developing a nationwide soil map database and assisting in the development of a GIS-based land suitability model for rain-fed agriculture (DANIDA).  In addition, he spent time in Laos providing training and assistance in urban planning applications and Ethiopia where social workers were given basic training in the use of GIS software for socio-economic mapping.
